With the upcoming October re-launch of Marvel Comics, dubbed the “All-New All-Different” Marvel, the most noticeable difference in the company’s superhero universe might be in Spider-Woman, who, according to a preview of the upcoming series, will be pregnant in her first issue.

The cover of the Spider-Women #1, by writer Dennis Hopeless and artist Javier Rodriguez, shows Jessica Drew (aka Spider-Woman) sporting her costume and a very big bump. The subtitle? “Parent by day. Hero by night.”

It’s new territory for Marvel, which has rarely shown pregnant superheroes. “It’s significant that such a high profile super-heroine is having a number one issue of her book kicked off with this as a main aspect of her life,” Joan Hilty, a former DC comics editor and comics consultant for a number of publishers, tells Yahoo Parenting. “There are plenty of examples throughout the history of superhero comic books of heroes having children — biological or adopted children, or wards who take after them and carry on their legacy — but there have been very few instances where we follow a hero working to raise a child from day one. Having that be an integral part of the story could be a great thing. Because, of course, parenting is an epic story in and of itself.”

Also present were aunt and uncle Pippa and James Middleton and the Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh. Prince Harry was absent because he’s in Africa working with rhino and elephant conservation charities. Charlotte’s five chosen godparents, a mix of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s closest confidants, also attended: Sophie Carter (Kate’s friend), James Meade (William’s friend), Adam Middleton (Kate’s first cousin), The Hon. Laura Fellowes (Princess Diana’s niece), and Thomas van Straubenzee (an old classmate of William’s).

Half of U.S. Women are Overweight During Pregnancy

(Reuters Health) – Roughly half of first-time mothers in the U.S. gain too much weight during pregnancy, about the same proportion who are overweight at the start, a study finds.

Researchers compared data on more than 2 million U.S. women to a group of about 1,650 of their peers in Germany, where almost three-fourths of first-time mothers started pregnancy at a healthy weight and only 27 percent exceeded weight gain recommendations.

So proclaimed LaDoris Cordell, the respected South Bay judge, Stanford Law graduate and outgoing San Jose Independent Police Auditor Tuesday evening. And Kardashian, perhaps the most photographed, as well as most mocked and media-dissected woman in the world, was very much in the house, decked out in a black, body-hugging designer dress and stiletto heels and displaying a friendly, easy-going grace.
Hosted by the Commonwealth Club, the 60-minute session began with Cordell’s joking, introductory red-carpet question, “What are you wearing?”

Well, that’s one way to put it! Pregnant Bristol Palin posted a photo of herself shooting a gun on Monday, June 29, following her shocking announcement from last week that she’s expecting her second child.

“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come,” Sarah Palin‘s daughter, 24, wrote on Instagram, citing the Biblical passage of Proverbs 31:25, which focuses on the virtuous woman. Palin further captioned her update with gun, sunshine, and mountain emojis to illustrate her activity of the day.

Dutch activist group Women on Waves has used a drone to deliver pregnancy termination drugs to two women in Poland. The “Abortion Drone” was piloted from Frankfurt, Germany, over the Oder river, and delivered the abortion drugs misoprostol and mifepristone in Słubice, Poland, reports CNET.

A Dutch gynecologist provided the drugs, which were delivered safely to the two women who were waiting for the delivery with Feminoteka, a Polish women’s advocacy group.

Women on Waves has said that the drone delivery was a protest centered on Poland’s abortion policy. Abortion is currently illegal in the country, except for cases of incest or rape.  If the fetus is a threat to a mother’s life, an abortion can be performed within 24 weeks of pregnancy.

The German police attempted to intervene, according to a release on the Women on Waves website. The group reported that the two women managed to swallow the pills before the police confiscated the drone controllers and personal iPads.
